Can ants fly?
Yup! Some ants in most species have wings! They are the reproductive ants, and they become air bound for a "Nuptial Flight" in search of mates. Depending on the type of ant, this can occur once to several times every year.
Does spray from the hardware store work?
Think of it this way, only licensed pest management professionals can purchase and apply certain materials, that are not sold in retail stores. So, typically, the stuff that really works won't be found in your local hardware store (for good reasons!) When attempting DIY pest control, it's important to remember that you have to eliminate the source of the problem, and locate the nest/colony to successfully eradicate ants. Otherwise, you will have an ongoing ant problem.
Are all ants tiny?
Nowadays, yes. But prehistorically, some ants were upwards of 2 inches long! In fact, fossilized evidence of an ant 2.4 inches long has been discovered. Take a look at your thumb. Now imagine an ant that long. Yikes!
Do ants bite?
Some of them. There are tons of different species of ants out there, so it depends on the species, and whether or not the bite or sting will hurt depends on the size. Ants that do bite or sting, do so as a defense mechanism, when they feel threatened. A pavement ant may bite a person or pet, and they wouldn't notice. But a carpenter ant, which is much larger, can produce a painful pinch.
